If there are no holes provided for the new canister, you must use Fig. 186. and drill holes for the new mounting bracket.
Operational check:
The function of the old style canister may be opposite of the one used on later vehicles. In all cases, the canister must be operating only at higher engine
speeds, not when the engine is idling. As a result, it is important that the hoses be connected correctly when the new canister is installed.
Start the engine and feel the opening of the lighter hose to ensure there is no vacuum present when idling.
Rev the engine and check that vacuum is present in both hoses.
The heavier hose must be attached to the lower connection.
The lighter hose must be attached to the upper connection.
