Ball Joint: Service and Repair
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.
2.
Remove ball joint housing to strut retaining bolts and lock washers (if applicable), then separate housing from strut.
3.
Remove ball joint and housing assembly to control arm retaining nuts and bolts, then separate and remove joint assembly from control arm.
4.
Position ball joint and housing on suitable bench, remove retaining nut, then press ball joint from housing.
5.
Install new ball joint into housing and torque retaining nut to 44 ft. lbs. Different ball joints are used for left and right sides of vehicle. Ensure
correct one is used when replacing joints.
6.
Install ball joint housing to strut, using new bolts and lock washers (if applicable). Torque retaining bolts to 17 ft. lbs.
7.
Install ball joint to control arm, then torque attaching nuts to 85 ft. lbs.
