Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front Disc Brakes

1.

Raise vehicle and remove wheels.

2.

Disconnect brake lines. Before loosening mounting bolts, loosen all bleeder screws.

3.

Remove caliper mounting bolts and remove caliper. Do not loosen bridge bolts.

4.

Remove retaining ring and rubber dust cover from each caliper piston, Fig. 1. Place a thick piece of wood between pistons and apply air pressure
to brake line connection of caliper to blow pistons out. Remove seals. The caliper must not be separated or leaks may result after reassembly.

5.

Coat pistons and cylinders with brake fluid before assembling.

6.

Install seals in cylinders, then install pistons, dust covers and lock rings.

7.

Reinstall calipers and bleed system. Torque caliper retaining bolts to 70 ft. lbs.
