A new type of fan motor P/N 1348688-1 was introduced in production October, 1984 (week 41). The new motor is quieter than the previous type as a
result of an improved mounting.
The new motor can be fitted to earlier vehicles (1981 through 1984) provided the fan housing is modified.
METHOD

The repair procedures detailed on Pages 38-43 of Service Manual Section 8 (87) Climate Unit (Heater Unit) 240, 260, Including The Revised Operations
(N13, N16, and N18)

N13: 1981 Models

Grind down spacer tabs in housing to obtain correct fit for new motor

Clean out removed material with compressed air.

NOTE:

Clean all surfaces thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the air ducts. It is also advisable to operate fan at max. speed to clear air ducts of
ground material (before delivery of car)
