CHECKING PINION POSITION

Place gauge 2393 in position. Make sure that it rests properly in the bearing seat and that the reference piece is firmly balanced on the pinion.

Place straight edge 2284 and a dial indicator across the rear axle casing. Measure the difference in height between the top of the reference piece and the
top of the portion of gauge 2393 that corresponds to the center line of the pinion. This dimension should be the same as the dimension stamped on the
end of the pinion, to the following tolerances:

+ 0.05 mm (0.0019)

0.02 mm (0.0007)

Make a note of the deviation. Remove 2393 and pinion.

ADJUST PINION POSITION

(only necessary if position is not to specification)

Place support ring 5214 on a pair of V-blocks and, using 5215 or 5216, press off rear bearing from pinion.

Measure thickness of adjusting shim.
