Overdrive Unit, M/T: Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Checking Oil Pressure
NOTE: Oil pressure can be checked when driving on test rollers or on the road.
1. Remove the plug underneath the control valve and connect pressure gauge P/N 2834.
2. Read the pressure when driving in direct gear at approx. 70 km/h (42 mph). The pressure should be 0.15 MPa (21.8 psi).
3. Engage the overdrive and check that the pressure rises to the specific amout. For more information refer to "Oil Pressures" in Specifications.
4. Disengage the overdrive and check the time taken for the pressure to drop to 0.15 MPa (21 psi). This time must not exceed 3 seconds.
Solenoid Testing
Electrically
Check for current at the yellow wire on the solenoid. Ignition must be ON and 4th gear plus overdrive engaged.
Mechanical
Remove the solenoid. Ensure that oil-ways are not blocked. Cover the holes between the O-rings and blow through the short end. The valve must
be tight, no air may pass. Connect a 12V supply to solenoid. Blow again without covering the holes. The valve must be tight and no air may pass.
Running Test
If the overdrive operates properly when the gearbox is cold but not when warm, connect the solenoid to a power supply and leave until it heats up.
Then check in manner previously described.
