Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection
If the CIS air valve does not work properly, or the basic idle speed is not set to specification, the following symptoms may appear.
-
Unstable idling
-
Undesirable dip in engine rpm when going from higher engine speed to idle speed
-
Too high idle speed
Air Valve, function test
-
Check throttle switch setting and adjust if necessary.
-
Warm up engine 10-15 min. Turn AC OFF. Ground test point red/white wire at right front wheel housing.
-
Turn idle adjustment screw (arrow) to set low idle of 650-700 rpm.
-
Disconnect grounded red/white wire. Engine speed should overshoot, but should return to normal idle speed of 750 +/- 20 rpm. If not, replace
air valve and recheck.
Idle speed, adjusting
-
Ground test point red/white wire again.
-
Set idle speed to 700-750 rpm.
-
Disconnect ground from red/white wire. Idle speed should stabilize at 750 +/- 20 rpm.
-
As an extra check, turn AC ON. Idle speed should increase to approx. 900 rpm.
