A new 20 slot nut with an integral washer P/N 1272918-2 was introduced into production at week 35 of 1980.
The adjustment procedure of front wheel bearings when utilizing this new nut differs from that listed in Service Manual, "Suspension and Wheels"

The correct procedure for adjusting front wheel bearings equipped with the revised nut is as follows:
1.
Tighten the nut to 57 N-M (42 ft.lbs.) while rotating the wheel.
2.
Loosen the nut (1/2) one-half turn.
3.
Retighten to 1.5 N-M (1.1 ft.lbs. ) "hand tight".
4.
Install a new cotter pin if the slot aligns with the hole in the stub axle.
5.
If the nut slot does not line up with the hole in the stub axle, TIGHTEN the nut to the next slot which aligns with the hole and install a new cotter
pin.
6.
Rotate the wheel, check for binding.
