Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection
ENGINE DOES NOT FIRE
1.
Disconnect control unit connector.
2.
Turn ignition ON.
3.
Check for voltage at terminals 15 and 16.
4.
If terminal 15 is live but not terminal 16:
a. Check connection on terminal 1 at ignition coil.
b. Check for voltage at terminal 15 on ignition coil. If no voltage is present, check ballast resistor.
c. Check for voltage at terminal 1 on ignition coil. If no voltage is present, check the ignition coil.
5.
Check for ground at terminal 31d. If no ground, check connection and wire.
6.
Check impulse generator resistance across terminals 7 and 31d.
Resistance=:
950-1250 Ohms for 4-cyl
540-660 Ohms for 6-cyl
7.
If resistance is correct, replace ignition control unit.
8.
If resistance is incorrect, check impulse generator and wiring.
