Clutch Release Fork: Adjustments
- The clutch fork clearance for these vehicles should be 1-3 mm (0.4-0.12 in) rearwards. There must always be a slight preload on the release bearing
which is provided by the pedal spring. If the rearward fork travel is not present, the pressure on the release bearing will increase as the clutch wears,
causing the clutch to slip eventually.
- To ensure correct operation of the clutch and to prevent slipping, there should always be clearance at the pedal stop (A).
- Check the pedal clearance at (B) by lifting pedal. Pedal clearance should be 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in).
- Alternatively, the clearance at the clutch release fork (C) can be checked by pushing the fork to the rear. Clearance should be 1-3 mm (0.04-0.12 in).
- Adjust the clearance by altering the length of the clutch cable.
- Since return springs may have been installed in service, it is advisable to check the type of linkage the vehicle is equipped with. If there is a spring on
the pedal carrier as shown, there should be no return spring on the clutch.
