Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
12 Or 20 Slot Castle Nut
1.
Thoroughly grease stub axle threads and nut, then torque castle nut to 41 ft. lbs. while rotating wheel.
2.
Loosen castle nut 1/2 turn and ensure outer bearing's inner race has not stuck, then tighten castle nut until it is only just possible to move axial
washer radially with a screwdriver.
3.
Loosen castle nut approximately a half-hexagon so that cotter pin can be installed in nearest hole. Hub should rotate easily, without any play.
4.
Half fill grease cap with grease and install using tool 2715.
20 Slot Castle Nut w/Integral Washer
1.
Thoroughly grease stub axle threads and nut, then torque castle nut to 37-47 ft. lbs. while rotating wheel.
2.
Loosen castle nut 1/2 turn and ensure outer bearing's inner race has not stuck, then torque castle nut to 0.97-1.50 ft. lbs. (finger tight).
3.
Turn castle nut to nearest hole and insert cotter pin. Hub should rotate easily, without any play.
4.
Half fill grease cap with grease and install using tool 2715.
