Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1.

Remove transmission.

2.

Remove pressure plate and clutch disc, if applicable.

3.

Lock flywheel using tool 5112 or equivalent, then remove flywheel bolts and flywheel.

4.

Using screwdriver, pry out rear crankshaft oil seal. Clean and inspect surfaces on seal holder and crankshaft.

5.

Apply oil to contact surfaces and new seal lips. Using tool 5208 or equivalent press seal in place until it bottoms.

6.

Install flywheel using new bolts. Apply thread locking compound Volvo P/N 277961-9 or equivalent to bolt threads. Torque bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75
Nm).

7.

If applicable, install clutch disc with hub facing out, then the pressure plate. Tighten bolts in alternating sequence.

8.

Install transmission.
