ELECTRICAL VACUUM PUMPS FITTED TO P70 VARIANTS
THIS BULLETIN IS APPLICABLE TO THE U.S. AND CANADIAN MARKETS
P70 variants fitted with 4 cylinder engines and ACC have an electrical vacuum pump mounted under the hood on the inner wheel well. Locations vary
depending on engine type. A vacuum supply tank is also fitted under the front of the engine.
With the introduction of this revised vacuum supply, the ACC programmer is always supplied even when the engine is turned off.
In cooler weather, when the car is started in the morning, the AC unit will operate correctly. However, when the engine reaches operating temperature,
and is then turned off for a short time (as little as 15 seconds) and then restarted, the AC programmer will operate at high fan speed for approximately 8
seconds. It will blow cold air out of the dash vents, then automatically drop to a lower speed.
To rectify this condition, a solenoid should be installed as follows:
FIGURE 1
1.
Using a 3" piece of wire, make a ground cable and connect between the negative terminal on the solenoid to ground (use part no's 948189-6
and 958220-6 terminals). Mount the solenoid and ground wire at existing bolt holes as illustrated.
2.
Locate the purple vacuum supply line and cut close to the solenoid.
3.
Attach a 1" piece of vacuum hose (part no. 1306702-0) to the solenoid outlet with the blue dot and the brown ring. This will allow the purple
line to be fitted to the solenoid.
