Hydraulic Control System: Service and Repair
Valve Body Replace
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove air cleaner assembly and position aside.
3.
Disconnect kickdown cable from throttle pulley.
4.
Drain fluid from transmission, then remove filter and gasket.
5.
On AW 70 and 71 model transmissions, carefully pry out the two oil tubes.
6.
Remove oil strainer and magnet. On AW 55 and BW 55 model transmissions, the magnet is located within the valve body. On AW 70 and
71 model transmissions, the magnet is located within the oil pan assembly.
7.
Remove valve body attaching screws, except the screw behind the cam spring.
8.
Loosen cam screw enough to allow sufficient clearance for accumulator piston retainer tool 5076 or equivalent, to be inserted.
9.
Remove cam screw and disconnect kickdown cable from throttle cam.
10.
Remove valve body assembly from transmission.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, then adjust kickdown cable as outlined previously. Torque oil filler tube to 66 ft. lbs. and valve body attaching screws
to 7 ft. lbs. Align gear selector cam pin with valve groove before torquing attaching screws.
