Calipers may be modified on earlier cars that have poor sliding action. Concerns listed might be caused by calipers which do not slide properly. To
rectify the problem, a complete repair kit (P/N 271282-6) is used to modify both upper and lower sliders of one caliper. However, since normally only
the lower slider requires aftention, a mini-kit (P/N 271283-4) is available to modify only the lower slider of a caliper.

The thickness of the brake pads and discs should be checked when modifying the caliper. If thickness is not within specification, new paris should be
installed.

Minimum thickness

Brake disc, front (ventilated)

20.0 mm (0.787 in.)

Brake pads, front (excl. metal base plate)

3.0 mm (0.12 in.)

Concern:

-

uneven wear between pads in same caliper

-

binding front brakes (i.e. if raised, front wheels rotate stiffly)

Note:

New front brake discs should be installed if the discs exceed specification for thickness and/or runout.

To modify front brakes

Lift vehicle and remove front wheels

Mark position of wheel in relation to hub, if there is no guide pin.

Remove brake pads

Remove guide pin from lower sleeve and swing caliper up.
