Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Testing and Inspection

EXCEPT MODELS W/ENGINE COOLING FAN IGNITION ADVANCE SYSTEM

1.

Turn ignition to ON position.

2.

Connect a suitable jumper wire between thermal switch electrical connector terminals. Do not disconnect electrical connector.

3.

With jumper wire properly installed, the engine cooling fan should activate.

4.

If fan does not operate, visually check relay, relay wiring and electrical connector for open and/or short circuits, relay for correct installation,
incorrectly grounded and/or damaged electrical connector. After conducting repairs on either the wiring, relay or electrical connector, repeat step
3.

5.

If fan still does not operate, replace relay and repeat test procedure.

MODELS W/ENGINE COOLING FAN IGNITION ADVANCE SYSTEM

1.

Connect a suitable timing light onto engine as per manufacturer's instructions.

2.

Start and operate engine until normal operating temperature is reached.

3.

Allow engine to idle.

4.

Slightly increase engine speed so that micro-switch on throttle control activates.

5.

With micro-switch activated, ignition timing should advance 5-10 degrees.

6.

If not, check connecting wiring and relay. Repair wiring or replace relay assembly as required.

7.

Check and/or adjust distributor vacuum advance unit.
