Connecting Rod: Service and Repair

    The B-28 engine uses a Mahle piston with a height of 62.8 mm. Pistons are available only as a piston/cylinder liner set. Piston pins are press fit in
piston and connecting rod. Pins are removed by pressing them out with the aid of special tool 5092. To install a new piston pin, the piston end of the
connecting rod is heated on an electric heater. To gauge the correct heat, place a small piece of solder on the connecting rod. The solder will melt when
the rod reaches the proper temperature. When the rod is sufficiently heated, place it and the piston in the tool fixture. Arrow on the piston should face
upward. 
    The tool fixture has a side for rods 1, 2 and 3 and the opposite side for rods 4, 5 & 6. It is important that the rods face in the proper direction. With the
piston and rod correctly set in the tool, install the piston pin in the mandrel, dip the pin in oil and quickly push the mandrel pin assembly into the piston
until it is stopped by the tool.
