Trailing Arm: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support vehicle. Support front end under control arm brackets so the vehicle will not be front heavy and the rear springs difficult to
compress.

2.

Remove rear wheel and brake caliper assembly. Hang caliper from rear spring.

3.

Remove propeller shaft rear flange attaching bolts and lower the shaft slightly.

4.

Support trailing arm with a suitable jack, then remove roll bar attaching bolts on both sides.

5.

Remove shock absorber lower bolt on side trailing arm is being removed and loosen bolt on opposite side, then slowly lower rear axle to unload
springs.

6.

Remove trailing arm rear bracket and rubber supports, then the front bracket and trailing arm.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Note the following torques: trailing arm rear bracket bolts, 33 ft. lbs.; roll bar nuts, 35 ft. lbs.; shock absorber lower
bolt, 63 ft. lbs.; trailing arm front bracket bolts, 35 ft. lbs. and nuts, 63 ft. lbs.; brake caliper bolts, 43 ft. lbs.
