THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO THE U.S. AND CANADA
REFERENCE:

Vibration and/or noise from the front end of the car can be caused by the auxiliary fan attachment nut coming loose, allowing the fan to contact the
condenser.
NOTE:
The noise can occur at driving speeds even if the fan is not energized, due to ram air effect causing the fan to rotate.
AFFECTED
PRODUCTION:
These symptoms can occur on all 1986 and 1987 700 series and on 1988 740 series only up to the following chassis numbers:
Assembly Plant #1
Assembly Plant #2
Assembly Plant #3
(Sweden)
(Belgium)

In production, locking fluid is applied to the fan motor shaft threads from the above chassis numbers.
The fan blade is held to the fan motor shaft by a reverse-threaded nut. Apply locking fluid P/N 1161053-2 (Locktite 290 or similiar) to the threads of the
fan motor shaft and torque the nut to 3 N-m (26.5 in. lbs.).
CAUTION:
Do not exceed the recommended torque as this will cause damage to the fan motor, and remember that the nut is reverse threaded.
