Modification of knee bolster member on cars with SRS
A modified instrument panel has been introduced on 1989 740's and 780's. This has also entailed modification of the soundproofing panel mounting. In
addition, a new design knee bolster support member has been introduced on cars with SRS.
To install these components on earlier cars, follow the procedures outlined in this bulletin.
Modifications
The five topmost attachment points of the instrument panel have been provided with 6 mm welded nuts instead of the original loose clips.
Soundproofing panel:
The soundproofing panel is secured by means of three 6 mm screws on cars without SRS.
Knee bolster member:
The four welded nuts at the top of the panel have been eliminated, as has the reinforcing bracket.
The instructions that follow will illustrate how to modify the earlier design SRS knee bolster member to accept the new instrument panel. Also included
is the new method of mounting the previous type soundproofing panel used on cars without SRS.
