Occurrence:

Mostly at idle speed with all electrical components turned on, A/C and drive position selected, when the tensioner is working.
Cause:
^
No grease in the tensioner or grease has carbonized.
^
The chafing shield in the tensioner could be worn or have been pressed out.
Analysis method:
^
Let the engine idle. Use stethoscope on the tensioner housing.
Repair:
-
D-type can be greased; refer to SB 26-801.

Replace all parts in the spare parts kit as shown at C1 or C2.
Remarks:
If the car is equipped with a mounting plate 0-type then only the parts required should be replaced, see Replacement Parts kit.

Exercise caution when working with the stethoscope so that is does not contact the belt

CLICKING NOISE
Occurrence:

Mostly at idle when the tensioner working with all power consuming components and A/C on, and in Drive position.
^
Clicking noise when tensioner working.
Cause:
^
Incorrect free play between two component parts. Analysis method:
^
Let engine idle.
