Drive Belt Tensioner: Service and Repair
Procedure
1. Remove auxiliaries belt:

Use a jointed socket wrench on the tensioner to slacken belt.
Early versions is 3/8 inch
The latest version is 3/4 inch.

Remove belt.
2. Tensioner replacement:

Undo two tensioner screws and remove tensioner.

Install new tensioner.
Tighten to 20 Nm (14.8 ft lb).
NOTE: If the replacement was due to noise, it may be sufficient to lubricate the tensioner to stop the noise.

Lubricating the tensioner

Remove the center screw and disassemble according to the illustration.
Lubricate with grease part No. 1 161 246-2 (50 gr. package) or 1 161 247-0 (500 gr. package), or equivalent, where indicated by the
arrows.

Reassemble and torque the center screw to 20 Nm (14.8 ft lb).
3. Install auxiliaries belt

Place belt around crankshaft.

Place belt around A/C-compressor, idler pulley, generator, and servo pump.
-
Tension tensioner and put on belt.
