Malfunction Lamp / Indicator: Description and Operation
Warning lights should never come on while driving. On the other hand, they come on when the ignition is switched on to show that they are working.
Once the engine starts, all the warning lights should go out except the handbrake on light, assuming the handbrake is on.
This warning light comes on if the SRS system diagnostics unit detects a fault in the SRS system which could prevent the car's air bag units activating
in the event of a collision.
The system is monitored continuously by a microprocessor in the crash sensor. Any fault or condition which occurs is stored in memory, while the
instrument panel warning lamp also lights.
If the lamp lights while driving or does not go out shortly after starting engine, an SRS condition is indicated. Once a condition has been detected, the
warning lamp will remain lit until the condition has been corrected and the memory cleared. If the lamp fails to light, this indicates a faulty bulb or a
shorted lead.
The warning lamp may also light when the generator (GEN) charging signal (D+) is low.
