EGR Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Used by the fuel injection and ignition ECU:
The sensor (mounted in the EGR valve or upper EGR pipe) measures the temperature of the exhaust gases returning to the intake manifold. By
detecting the temperature variations, The control unit can determine whether or not the EGR system is operating.
OPERATION
The sensor is a PTC (positive temperature coefficient) type and is designed to measure temperatures up to 932°F (500°C). PTC means that the
resistance increases as temperature increases.
NOTE:
The sensor is highly sensitive to shock and impact. Particular care must be taken when handling and installing it.
