B234F Fuel and Ignition Control Units/Replacement
Both fuel and ignition ECU's were updated during 1991 M/Y production. The change is effective from the following chassis numbers:

Both new-version ECU's will function in earlier applications, but only in tandem. (Refer to chart).
When Volvo's inventory of early fuel and ignition units is depleted, they will be superceded by the new-version units. Once a vehicle is updated with
both new-version units, it is then possible to replace one independently of the other as needed.
Note:
Federal and Calfornia emissions regulations restrict the interchangeability of control units. Refer to the applications list.

Only the following combinations of fuel and ignition control units are allowed. When replacing a fuel or ignition control unit on a B234F engine, do not
mix early and late versions. Do not install early ECU's in late-version applications.
