Vacuum Brake Booster: Description and Operation
General
DESCRIPTION
The brake servo is mounted between the brake pedal and master cylinder. The unit uses the vacuum in the intake manifold and a vacuum pump to
reduce the pedal pressure required for braking.
OPERATION
If the pedal is released fully, all of the moving parts of the servo return to the idle position and the brakes are released. If the vacuum supply is lost
for any reason, the brakes will continue to operate since the servo will then function simply as an extended pushrod. Under these conditions,
however, a higher pedal force, equivalent to the ratio supplied by the servo, will obviously be required.
