Handling Deployed Supplemental Restraint Systems
Handling deployed supplemental restraint systems
NOTE: First read the instructions for reusing the safety products according to Supplemental Restraint System Module (SRS), reuse.
The following components must always be replaced:
-
Steering wheel module
-
Passenger module
-
Dashboard and frame
-
Steering wheel
-
Contact Reel
-
Control module (see separate instructions below)
-
Seat belt assembly (including the seat belt buckle on both sides)
-
The SRS ignition cable for the passenger module (if applicable)
-
WHIPS system.
SIPS airbag
Replace:
-
Upholstery
-
Foam filling
-
Protective pad
-
SIPS airbag.
Check that the backrest frame is straight. Ensure that there is no damage. Replace the backrest frame if it is damaged.
The following components must be checked and replaced if they are damaged:

The windshield and its bonding.
NOTE:
-
The windshield must be PUR bonded when replaced. Carefully remove any glass splinters. Remember to check in the ventilation ducts.

The dashboard and its frame (if applicable)
-
Panels under the dashboard
-
Loudspeakers (in the dashboard).

If the car is equipped with Volvo On Call check the following:
-
the collision cable. See Checking the collision cable.
-
the reserve battery. See Checking the reserve battery.
CAUTION:
The control module must always be replaced if:
-
The diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) cannot be erased when the car has been repaired (there is still a fault in the control module)
-
The control module is mechanically damaged
-
There is mechanical damage to the floor of the car around the control module. This may weaken the mechanical mountings for the control module.
Remove the control module. Check that its mountings are not cracked.
CAUTION: While under warranty, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) SRS-112 (corresponding to p23) must not be erased. The sensor unit must
be returned to Volvo instead according to current procedures.
