Adjusting Valve Clearance
Valve clearance
Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
Removal
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
Check the valve clearance. Refer to: Valve clearance, B8444S See: Measuring Valve Clearance Valve clearance.
Remove the VVT units. Refer to: VVT unit, B8444S See: Actuators and Solenoids - Engine/Variable Valve Timing Actuator/Service and Repair.
Adjusting the valve clearance
Remove the valve tappet. Read off the thickness from the underside.
Calculate the required thickness of the valve lifter to be used:the thickness of the existing valve lifter + the measured valve clearance = required
valve clearance.
The number on the valve lifter corresponds to the thickness of the valve lifter.
Installation
Install the correct valve tappet.
Install the VVT units. Refer to: VVT unit, B8444S See: Actuators and Solenoids - Engine/Variable Valve Timing Actuator/Service and Repair.
Check the valve clearance. Refer to: Valve clearance, B8444S See: Measuring Valve Clearance Valve clearance.
Connect the negative battery lead. Battery See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
