Rear Cross-Member Bushing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise the car. Put the gear shift in neutral and check the parking brake is not set. Locate the rear lifting arms so as to avoid obstructing support
arms and the arm brackets.
2. Detach the propeller shaft from the front and back drive flanges. Make a note of the length of the bolts and where they are located in the CV joint.
With a colored felt-tip pen mark up the position of the joint in relation to the drive flange.
NOTE: Make a note if the propeller is attached to the rear drive flange with balancing bolts.
3. Remove:
a. One of the screws on the tank brace. Loosen the other slightly, twist the brace out of the way.
b. Screws to the rear joint. Use counterhold.
c. Screws to the front joint. Use sleeve.
NOTE: Lower the propeller shaft carefully so the cable to the oxygen sensor (H02S) is not damaged.
4. Remove screws to the propeller shaft intermediate bearing. Pull the propeller shaft forwards approx. 100 mm and let it rest on the intermediate
bearing beam.
