PNP SWITCH OVERRIDE

To allow the gear selector to be moved from the Park position when there is no battery voltage, or if there is a fault in the PNP switch mechanism, it is
possible to disconnect the interlock mechanism mechanically. The mechanical release consists of a push button (5) marked SHIFT-LOCK
OVERRIDE on the gear lever. When this button is pressed, the solenoid lock pin (3) is released and the gear selector can be moved from the Park
position. See Figure C. (In earlier models, the mechanical release was located under the gear selector brush beside the text SHIFT-LOCK RELEASE.)

NOTE:  On cars with ignition switch interlock, the ignition key must first be turned to position I or II.

For as long as the fault persists, the mechanical disconnect must be used together with the ignition key every time the gear selector is moved from the
Park position.

The electrical circuit between the stop (brake) light switch and solenoid incorporates a microswitch (6), which closes the circuit only in position P to
prevent operation of the solenoid when the driver operates the brake pedal while driving.
