Shifter A/T: Service and Repair

Replacement Of Gear Lever Knob 

-

Pull knob straight upward from lever Considerable force is required to remove knob.

-

Install new knob.

-

Ensure that plastic collar is in place and correctly positioned.

Removal Of Gear Selector Unit 

-

Disconnect control rod.

-

Jack up car.

-

Disconnect control rod from gear lever arm by removing clip.

-

Disconnect battery ground lead.

-

Remove soundproofing panels on each side.

-

If gear selector unit is to be replaced, remove gear selector knob and plastic ring.

-

Remove:

ashtray
center console screws in storage compartment and at front of panel
console panel screws
