Checking drive shaft install
Check the drive shaft for out-of-round at various places using a micrometer.
Maximum out-of-round 0.05 mm.
Installing pulse wheel to drive shaft
Note: Take care to avoid damaging the bell joint and/or pulse wheel.

Clean surface.

Position the pulse wheel on the drive shaft.

Install 999 5694 and use a drive shaft nut with flange (model year 1998->) to press the pulse wheel to the end of the drive shaft.

Check installation is correct for fit.
Installing drive shaft in knuckle
Check the sealing ring in the knuckle.
Carefully install the shaft in the knuckle.
Install
-
a new retaining nut and ring on the drive shaft.
-
the knuckle in the shock absorber support, using new bolts and nuts. Tightening torque 90 Nm.
Finishing
Turn the steering wheel until it is straight ahead
Install
-
the brake pads.
-
the brake caliper.
-
the brake hose and the sensor cable in the supports.
-
the wheel.
-
the drive shaft nut.
-
Tighten with 240 Nm.
-
(From chassis no. 130000, tighten the drive shaft nut with 120 Nm + 60°.)
-
the wheel cover/cap.
Warning: Always depress the brake pedal several times before driving the car!
Check the brake fluid level.
Checking correct operation of ABS system
Read out the DTCs.
Carry out a test-drive and check whether the ABS warning light goes out.
Read out and check whether there are any DTCs stored.
