Remove the mounting screws for the steering gear housing and the mounting brackets from the cross member.
Remove the steering gear housing from the mounting and the steering shaft.
Remove the steering gear housing,

left-hand drive cars, first on the left, then on the right

right-hand drive cars, first on the right, then on the left.
Checking the steering gear housing mounting
Clean the mating surfaces for the steering gear housing.
Check and clean both the rubber boots.
Caution! The rubber boots are bonded onto the steering gear housing and will be damaged if removed.
