Sand down and rebuild a new coat of paint.
Check adhesion of topcoat by applying tape to paint surface and pulling away suddenly.
If topcoat sticks to tape, sand down to primer coat (P 230), rebuild topcoat.

Apply paint with touch-up brush or repair spraying.
Code 92 - Atmospheric effects on paint (Oil, bird droppings etc.)

Cause

Aggressive chemical substances such as limestone, cement, rust and acid vapor in conjunction with moisture, mainly affect horizontal surfaces,
e.g. bird droppings, oil, soot, degreasing agents etc.

Droppings, especially from seabirds, corrode painted surfaces.
Action
-
Minor changes in color can be remedied by sanding with P 1200 sandpaper and polishing. For extensive areas of staining, sand down and rebuild
paintwork. Spray primer coat on areas which are sanded through.

Clean immediately when discovered, if serious, respraying is required.
Code 93 - Mechanical impact on paint (spark shower)
(Industrial emissions, flying rust, spark shower from train etc.)
Cause
-
Rusty iron dust particles on paint (horizontal surfaces). Spark showers from railway, street car, trolley-bus contact leads and train brakes etc.
Action
-
Clean with 3% oxalic acid and then wash down with plenty of water. Polishing may be necessary for heavy damage. If particles are embedded
deep in paint, paint repairs will be necessary.

Volvo's original colors should be used if possible, but as the situation may occur that the recommended paint materials are not available from stock, we
have produced a list of the stock carried by the major paint producers for paintwork repairs to Volvo cars.
The list contains the producers' own recommendations and the products below are not guaranteed or stocked by Volvo.
The respective producer should be contacted if more information on any of the products is required.
Note! Always follow the producers' recommendations and do not mix the different producers' systems.
The increased demands for color range, water-based and pearl, worker protection, reduced air pollution and clearer directions on the labels from the
paint suppliers, has led to Volvo Car Corporation changing their previous policy regarding the original color concept. We have also discovered that the
paint mixers in the market place are of a better quality than previously. Therefore, Volvo accepts these for painting cars during the guarantee period.
It is thought important that each paint supplier is individually responsible for the color matching and the quality, as well as for any complaints.
