Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

Sealing ring, driveshaft, front right

999 1801 STANDARD SHAFT See: Tools and Equipment/999 1801 Standard Shaft 
999 5541 PUNCH  See: Tools and Equipment/999 5541 Punch

Method content

Seal drive shaft left-hand side, replacing

Removing the drive shaft

Due to the risk of the oil being exposed to dirt from a broken drive shaft seal, the oil in the gearbox must be changed. Drain the oil from the gearbox.

Transaxle oil (M/T) See: Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Transaxle Oil

Removing drive shaft

Remove the drive shaft.  See: Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and Repair/Driveshaft Left

Installing the drive shaft seal

Use a jimmy bar with a flat surface. Turn the flat surface towards the transmission housing.

Installing the drive shaft seal

Note! Wipe thoroughly before installing the new drive shaft seal.

Apply a small amount of grease to the sealing lip.
