Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Service and Repair
Vehicles With Early Version VDO Instrument Panel

All Volvo's with VDO instrument panel MUST USE the Volvo Scan Tool to reset the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI). 

The SRI is reset using the Volvo Scan Tool via the 16-pin DLC connector located in front of the transmission shifter or in the center console.

The Diagnostic Socket previously used to reset the SRI has been eliminated beginning with the 1996 model year vehicles.

EDITOR'S NOTE:

There has been some development regarding aftermarket SRI resetting tools. 

Assenmacher Specialty Tools Inc. has developed a Scan Tool that will reset the SRI on Volvo's. 

I have contacted Assenmacher Specialty Tools to confirm this but do not represent Assenmacher Specialty Tools Inc. in any way. The Scan Tool is
said to be limited to SRI resetting only and does not interface with the OBD-II data stream. This was done to keep costs down according to Mr.
