If the entire propeller shaft is to be removed, the rubber boot must be protected. 

Cut a 35 mm (1 3/8") piece of discarded coolant hose or similar. Cut the hose to length. Insert the hose in the joint and secure it with a cable

Important! The propeller shaft must not be raised without protecting the rubber boot

If a part of the propeller shaft is to be loosened, use a jack to support the part until the propeller shaft is suspended. If the entire propeller shaft is to be
removed, both parts must be supported.
