Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Input Shaft Seal

Special Tools

-

Extractor tool No. 999 5489, or equivalent

-

Drift tool No. 999 5490, or equivalent

-

Preparations

-

Before replacing gearbox input shaft seal, follow:

Steps 1 through 26 of transmission removal. See: Service and Repair
Step 2 of clutch replacement. See: Clutch/Service and Repair

1. Remove throwout (release) bearing sleeve.

-

Remove the three screws holding the sleeve.

2. Tap in extractor tool No. 999 5489, or equivalent.

NOTE:  Jackscrew in extractor must be unscrewed.

Check that extractor grips input shaft seal. Remove Input shaft seal.

3. Install new input shaft seal. 

-

Grease input shaft seal lip. 

-

Use drift tool No. 999 5490, or equivalent 

-

Tap seal in until drift touches transmission cover.

4. Install throwout (release) bearing sleeve. 

-

Apply a little locking fluid to the bolts.
