Shift Cable: Service and Repair
Selector Cables

Special Tools

-

Fitting tool No. 999 5511, or equivalent

-

Refer to special tool section for additional tool information. See: Tools and Equipment

Removal

1. Remove: 

-

Battery negative cable. 

-

Air Cleaner (ACL) and intake pipe.

Turbo models only: Disconnect timing valve from ACL.

2. Remove: 

-

Clip and washers from levers. 

-

Clips from cable bracket. 

-

Selector cables from cable bracket.

NOTE:  The selector cable runs in engine compartment.

3. Remove:

-

Cigarette lighter panel/storage compartment (two bolts at back).

-

Some models: DLC from panel.

-

Cover from under handbrake lever.

-

Storage compartment lid.

Disconnect shift lever bellows (gaiter) from tunnel console.
-

Press shift lever bellows (gaiter) rear fastener from underneath through the gap under the parking brake lever.
