Use tie strap clamp the new hose to the cable conduit and the hose between the power steering fluid reservoir and the cooling loop (see
illustration).
k. A tie strap must also be used around the hose where it crosses in the loop (see illustration).
NOTE: Check that the new hose does not chafe against the engine mounting.
3. Top up the power steering system with oil
a. Lower the car.
b. Remove hose clamp.
c. Fill with hydraulic fluid. Transmission oil grade: ATF oil type F. G. Dexron II D, E, III, Ford Mercon or Volvos synthetic ATF oil, P/N
1161317-1. Synthetic oil can be mixed with normal ATF but the cold weather properties are greatly reduced. When changing to synthetic oil
the system should be completely emptied of oil.
d. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock several times. Top up fluid if required.
4. Bleed the power steering system. Check oil level during bleeding:
a. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock several times. Top up fluid if required.
b. Set the parking brake.
c. Start engine.
d. Turn steering wheel slowly to the right, hold on full lock for 10 seconds.
e. Turn steering wheel slowly to the left, hold on full lock for 10 seconds.
f.
Repeat points d and e 20 times. Move car after the operation has been carried out 10 times to avoid damage to the tires.
g. Fill the reservoir with fluid if required.
5. Check for leaks in the power steering system
a. Raise the car.
b. Check for leaks at the steering gear and the line connections.
c. Reinstall splash guard under the engine.
d. Lower the car.
