Accumulator: Service and Repair
1. Remove control system.
WARNING: THE OIL MAY BE VERY HOT IF THE CAR HAS JUST BEEN DRIVEN.

Disconnect battery ground lead.

Drain oil from oil pan.

Remove oil pan.

Remove oil filter.

Disconnect solenoid cables.

Slacken off control system. Attach retainers to accumulator pistons and check valves.

Remove control system.
2. Remove check valve housing and spring. Remove retainer on check valve with Special Tool 999 5494.
3. Remove accumulator pistons B2, C2 and BO and springs.
Carefully remove retainer with Special Tool 999 5493. Support with hand to prevent pistons falling out. Remove pistons B2, C2 and BO and
springs (four). If pistons are stuck, release by blowing carefully through oil holes (arrow in illustration) with compressed air. Hole on left is for
pistons B2 and C2, hole in the center is for BO piston. Position hand to ensure pistons are not damaged when ejected.
4. Remove accumulator piston CO and spring.
Carefully remove retainer with Special Tool 999 5495. Support with hand to prevent pistons falling out. Remove piston CO and springs (two). If
piston is stuck, blow through oil hole (arrow) with compressed air as described above. (Arrow in illustration.) Hold hand under piston.
