AFFECTED VEHICLES
DESCRIPTION:
When diagnosing oil leakage on a vehicle equipped with a speed sensitive steering gear (rack), attention should be paid to oil leakage into the bellows
(tie rod boots).
Analysis has shown that the leak can be caused by faulty rack bar sealing inside the steering gear.
Note!
The terms "rack" and "gear" are used interchangeably in this document. In VIDA, speed sensitive racks are called ECPS racks. The terms "bellows" and
"tie rod boots" are used interchangeably in this document.
SERVICE:
If fluid leakage into the steering gear bellows is verified,
1.) check for any bent/kinked power steering hoses. Replace as necessary according to VIDA.
2.) replace the steering gear according to VIDA:

- Removal, replacement, and installation
- Suspension and steering
- Steering
- Steering gear
