AM/FM reception
The base unit of the antenna module (ATM) (16/110) has the task of receiving and converting AM and FM signals. The antenna signals are converted to
sound signals which are transmitted digitally to the audio control module (AUD) (16/105) via the MOST network.
The antenna module (ATM) (16/110) receives information from the infotainment module (ICM) (16/1) about which frequency/radio station and which
waveband the listener wishes to listen to.
The antenna module (ATM) does not transmit sound signals to the audio module (AUD) if the radio station signal is not strong enough. The antenna
module (ATM) is in "MUTE" mode when searching frequencies.
The antenna module (ATM) stores the most recently used frequency for a waveband. When changing from one frequency to another the control module
will use the stored frequency.
GPS reception
The GPS unit (option) has the task of receiving satellite signals for determining position. The antenna module (ATM) (16/110) transmits two different
position signals on MOST:
-
a received signal from the GPS satellites. Used by the multimedia module (MMM) (16/108) and the phone module (PHM) (16/60)
-
a calculated signal. Used by the Phone Module (PHM) (16/60).
The calculated signal is obtained by dead reckoning. The antenna module (ATM) calculates the present position of the car based on the most recent
GPS-signal. The control module receives information about direction and speed from the brake control module (BCM) and central electronic module
(CEM) via the infotainment module (ICM) (16/1) to calculate the present position.
Traffic message channel (TMC) reception
The traffic message channel (TMC) receiver in the antenna module (ATM) is an option and has the task of receiving traffic information sent by radio.
The antenna module (ATM) transmits information to the multimedia module (MMM).
Traffic message channel (TMC) is a European standardized code system for traffic messages, such as information about road works. The Japanese
equivalent is called FM multiplex.
There is no traffic information system in the USA.
