Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant pump, replacing

Removal and Installation

Preparation

Note! As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However,
the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Install lock grip pliers on the upper radiator hose.
Raise the car.
Remove the lower engine splash guard.
Install lock grip pliers on the lower radiator hose.
Open the engine nipple. Drain the coolant into a container. Close the nipple.
Remove the timing belt. See Timing belt, replacing See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.

Replacing the coolant pump

Remove the screws holding the pump at the cylinder block.
Tap the pump wheel using the shaft of a hammer. Remove the pump.
Carefully clean the gasket face.
Install a new gasket and the coolant pump. Tighten crosswise. Tighten to 17 Nm.
