XC90 AWD V8-4.4L VIN 85 B8444S (2005)
Tighten the camshaft's center screw. Tighten to 20 Nm. Turn the VVT unit clockwise to its limit position.
Note! The VVT unit is locked when the position of the hole corresponds to the illustration: hole no. 1 must be to the right of an imaginary line
between hole no. 2 and 3.
Note! Remove the camshaft's center screw.
Installing the camshaft chain
Install the camshaft chain. See: Camshaft chain, replacing, B8444S See: Timing Chain/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
Minimize the slack of the chain on the inner camshaft chain. Use tool 999 7232 Key See: Tools and Equipment/999 7232 Key.
For cylinder head 1, 3, 5 and 7 (Bank1)Turn the exhaust camshaft's VVT unit, counter clockwise, until the chain is tensioned underneath.
For cylinder head 2, 4, 6 and 8 (Bank2) Turn the exhaust camshaft's VVT-unit, counter clockwise, until the chain is tensioned on top.
Tighten the screw in the center of the intake camshaft's VVT unit. Tighten to 20 Nm.
Install tool 999 7229 Counterhold See: Tools and Equipment/999 7229 Counterhold on the intake camshaft.
Tighten the center screw on the camshaft, 1 x M10. See: See: Specifications/Mechanical Specifications/Tightening Torque
