Valve clearance, setting/adjusting

Preparatory work

Disconnect the battery negative cable. See: Battery, disconnecting See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures/Battery,
Disconnecting.
Check valve clearance, see: Valve clearance, checking, B8444S See: Valve Clearance, Checking.
Remove the VVT units, see: VVT unit intake camshaft, replacing , B8444S See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Actuators and Solenoids -

Adjustment

Adjusting the valve clearance

Remove the valve tappet. Read off the thickness from the underside.
Calculate the required thickness of the valve lifter to be used:the thickness of the existing valve lifter + the measured valve clearance = required
valve clearance.

Note! The number on the valve lifter corresponds to the thickness of the valve lifter.

Install the correct valve tappet.

Finishing
