Checking Crankshaft Endplay

1.

After installing crankshaft, check endplay between thrust rings on rear main bearing saddle and crankshaft shoulders.

2.

Install magnetic base dial gauge and wedge two screwdrivers as shown in Fig. 7.

3.

Using screwdrivers, pry crankshaft back and forth and check on dial gauge to see if end movement is .002-.010 inch.

4.

If endplay exceeds .0137 inch, replace thrust rings with .005 inch oversize rings.

5.

When installing service thrust rings, ensure grooves on thrust rings face crankshaft shoulder.
