Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation
1.
Center steering wheel and front wheels.
2.
Mark relationship of universal joint steering gear shaft for assembly reference.
3.
Remove universal joint to steering gear shaft attaching bolt and nut.
4.
Raise and support vehicle.
5.
Remove tie rod ball joint to steering knuckle securing nut.
6.
Using suitable tool, separate ball joints from steering knuckle.
7.
Remove steering gear to body attaching bolts and remove steering gear from vehicle.
8.
Reverse procedure to install, then check toe-in and adjust as necessary.
