Ticking Noise From the Glove Box
SYMPTOM
A ticking noise from the glove box while driving.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The right-hand corner of the glove box contacts the instrument panel.
DIAGNOSIS
Test-drive the car to reproduce the noise. When you hear the noise, open the glove box; if the noise goes away, do the CORRECTIVE ACTION. If you
still hear the noise with the glove box open, continue with normal troubleshooting until you find the cause.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Apply slip tape to the corner where the glove box contacts the instrument panel.
1.
Cut an 80-mm-long piece of slip tape from the roll (see PARTS INFORMATION). Then trim a 3-mm-wide strip lengthwise from the piece of
tape. (This will minimize tape trimming after you install it.)
2.
Open the glove box, and apply the tape to the ridge on the instrument panel, beginning at the upper right corner.
3.
If needed, carefully trim off any tape that sticks out above or below the ridge.
