6. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
7. Remove the upper and lower covers.

NOTE:  Do not use the upper and lower covers to store removed items.

8. Remove one of the battery clamp bolts from the battery tray, and grind the end of it as shown.

9. To hold the timing belt adjuster in its current position, thread in the battery clamp bolt hand-tight.

NOTE:  Hand-tighten the battery clamp bolt only, do not use any tools.

10. Loosen the idler pulley bolt about five or six turns, then remove the timing belt.

When Replacing Belt 

NOTE:  This procedure is for replacing the timing belt. Install the timing belt in the reverse order of removal; Only key points are described here.
